The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced that drivers should be prepared for a closure on Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) in Mesa and Gilbert for pavement maintenance.

According to the statement, the eastbound/northbound Loop 202 between Val Vista Drive and US 60 will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, May 12, to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 13. Along with the closure, the eastbound Loop 202 on-ramps at Gilbert and Lindsay roads and the westbound State Route 24 ramp to northbound Loop 202 will also be closed.

Drivers are advised to use an alternate route by considering eastbound US 60. Alternate local routes include northbound Ellsworth and Power roads as well as Val Vista Drive. Additionally, in areas south of Loop 202, drivers are advised to consider using eastbound Germann Road.

It is important to note that crews plan to reopen Loop 202 in sections as the pavement sealant being applied to the freeway dries. ADOT has also advised drivers to slow down and use caution around maintenance personnel and equipment in all work zones.

This closure is expected to cause some disruption for drivers, but ADOT assures the public that the maintenance work is necessary to ensure the safety of all road users. It is important for drivers to plan accordingly and be aware of the closure and detours to avoid potential delays.
