Gilbert, Ariz. – In a gesture of hometown pride and recognition for his remarkable journey from high school quarterback to Super Bowl contender, Gilbert, Arizona, has bestowed a special honor upon Brock Purdy, starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. The street leading to Purdy’s alma mater, Perry High School, now proudly bears his name.
Members of Gilbert’s Public Works Department, alongside representatives from the Town of Gilbert and Perry High School, came together Thursday February 8 for the unveiling of honorary ‘Brock Purdy Way’ street signs. Positioned prominently at the intersection of Queen Creek Road and Perry Puma Drive, these signs serve as a tribute to Purdy’s achievements and mark the entrance to Perry High School.
Mayor Brigette Peterson and Perry High Principal Heather Patterson had the honor of revealing the temporary signs, celebrating Purdy’s legacy as a standout quarterback for the Perry Pumas. During his tenure from 2015 to 2017, Purdy led the team to the state championship game twice, leaving an indelible mark on the school’s football program. His senior season was particularly noteworthy, as he set a state record for passing yards.
Despite being the final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, earning the moniker of Mr. Irrelevant, Purdy’s ascent to Super Bowl contender status is nothing short of remarkable. His journey serves as a source of inspiration and pride for the community, demonstrating the power of perseverance and dedication in the face of adversity.
Purdy took the field in Super Bowl LVIII against the Kansas City Chiefs and etched his name in Arizona sports history as the first high school quarterback from the state to play in the Super Bowl—a feat that resonated deeply with fans and supporters in Gilbert and beyond.
