The completion of the first phase of the Monterey Park was recently celebrated by the city officials and local children. The park has been officially opened to the public.

Kevin Thompson, District 6 councilmember said, “It was very important to get residents’ feedback about what they wanted Monterey Park to look like, and those comments were incorporated in the final design.”

He also added, “I am happy to say it was a very successful process and demonstrated a high level of community interest in the park.”

The park features climbing ropes, two transfer stations, a roller side, tic-tact-toe, differs and fossils in the sand play area, a net play structure and swings for children.

Mayor John Giles said that he is looking forward to the completion of the other fields and other amenities.

When the park is completed, it is expected to have four Pickle ball courts, youth diamond fields, and a mini library. Construction to double the park’s size is expected to be completed in fall 2023.
