Pool season is just around the corner and Mesa Parks and Recreation is recruiting candidates to keep our swimmers and pools safe this summer. Lifeguards working for the City of Mesa are among the highest paid in the valley. New payrates are $16.30 per hour for lifeguards and $17.02 for lifeguard/swim instructors. Lifeguards and swim instructors must be at least 15 or 16 years of age, respectively.

Lifeguard candidates looking to secure their summer job need to be certified to respond to aquatic emergencies. Information about Mesa Parks and Recreation’s different lifeguard training classes is available online. Additionally, the City has added incentives this year:

  • New hire incentive – A newly hired lifeguard who works the entire summer season from the end of May through Labor Day and receives a positive evaluation at the end of the pool season will receive $500
  • Class reimbursement incentive – Anyone who takes the training, works all summer at a City aquatic center and receives a positive evaluation at the end of pool season is eligible to get paid back for the cost of training, which is $199 for Mesa residents and $229 for non-residents.

Becoming a City of Mesa lifeguard is an opportunity to earn money, learn lifesaving skills, keep your community safe and be a role model for kids. It is the perfect job for students and offers flexible summer and year-round shifts.
